July 10, 2019 - Assisi-Siena

After three productive and busy days in Rome, the students ate an early breakfast and we were soon on our way to the second part of our journey. Before heading  to Siena, we made a brief stop at Assisi, birthplace of Saint Francis of Assisi.  St. Francis died here in 1226.  We visited St. Francis' tomb, his family home and the Basilica.  We viewed a number of works by Giotto here.
Afterwards students had time to explore the calm and peaceful town of Assisi where they grabbed something to eat, bought souvenirs, and explored more of the town.
We then made our way to Siena, and arrived at Hotel Moderno around 5 p.m.  We had dinner in the hotel where we enjoyed pasta alla carbonara, and roast chicken.  The food is delicious and the students are appreciating the Tuscan cuisine.
After dinner we took students out to enjoy Siena by night. Students enjoyed a gelato, walked around Piazza del Campo, and some played cards in the shell shaped piazza.  Students returned to their hotel rooms and settled in after a long day of traveling.  Good night to all!
